Bag setup
Golf bag setup: giving every club a role
You're allowed up to 14 clubs, and you don't have to fill every slot. What matters is that the clubs you carry have a useful role and cover the distances you face on the course.
The four zones of a golf bag
- Long game — driver, fairway woods, hybrids. Gets you down the hole.
- Approach — mid and short irons. Where consistent spacing matters most.
- Scoring zone — wedges. Three or four wedges with even spacing cover a lot of scoring shots.
- Putter — the one club you use on almost every hole.
Things worth checking in your setup
- Carrying long irons you struggle to launch, while missing a more forgiving hybrid at the same distance.
- A large gap between the pitching wedge and the sand wedge.
- Two clubs with the same carry distance — worth a look, though they can still earn their place if you use them for different trajectories, shot shapes or lies.
- Open slots you haven't thought about, where another distance could be covered.

The GolfBag optimizer checks your setup against all of these: distance coverage, wedge gapping, long game coverage, club overlap and how many of your slots are in use.
